Wainscoting can be simple, and it can be all sorts of complicated. The clients on this particular project asked us for something in-between, and we did our best to make it happen. Like most jobs, a little bit of planning and carefully laying things out went a long way towards making the wainscoting installation relatively painless.
A friend tipped me off to a door she had seen laying in an alley in the neighborhood where we both live, and I was quick to grab it. I rarely turn down an opportunity to salvage old doors, but upon discovering that it was a 6-lite entry door, I wasn't sure what to build with it. After a little thought, a coffee table was constructed; each of the bottom door panels became the "legs", and a piece of glass was purchased to throw across the top of the table to increase its functionality.
